Cap Manufacturers

In the years following WWII, there were many manufacturers in the marketplace making caps for pro and college teams, including GoldsmithSpalding, Wilson, Rawlings, McAuliffe and Coane. In the early 1950s, McAuliffe modified the cap to give it a still bill and a high crown, and the other manufacturers soon did the same. New Era caps become relatively common by the late 1960s, and the company soon dominated the market. In the 1970s, with brighter colors in fashion, nylon caps began to appear to prevent the colors from running due to sweat or humidity. By 1977, only New Era was still making caps for pro and college teams.
